Simulation scenario

Endocrinology Department/University Hospital

Inese Berzina (56 years old) has been hospitalized in the endocrinology ward due to significantly elevated blood sugar levels. The patient’s condition is deteriorating she reports increasing headache, blurred vision, and fatigue. She has pressed the emergency call button multiple times. Nurses respond by informing her that the doctor is currently off-site and advising her to wait patiently.

Vital signs are measured, and a blood sample is taken, which confirms elevated blood glucose levels. The nurses’ facial expressions suggest concern, but no further explanation is provided to the patient. Feeling frightened, the patient contacts a friend for support.

The nurses inform the doctor that the patient is distressed and wishes to speak with them. However, no clear information is communicated regarding the patient’s symptoms or the severity of the elevated blood sugar levels.
